Schlumberger In Guyana

Expanding Allied’s Footprint in Guyana with Schlumberger

Allied Steel Buildings has delivered over 5,500 buildings, and we have solidified our position as a leading player in the international arena—with buildings completed in over 65 different countries. This international footprint would not be possible without a robust ecosystem of designers, engineers, logistics professionals, custom agents, local building-code experts, steel fabricators, and local business partners.

Fortune 500 company

When our local business partner in Guyana brought us the opportunity to provide a multi story office building for Schlumberger, a Fortune 500 company that provides leading digital solutions and deploys ground-breaking technologies in the oil and gas industry, we accepted the challenge.

While Guyana’s economy was once quite delicate, depending primarily upon agricultural and mined products, things took a drastic turn in 2015. It was then that a rich, offshore oil field was discovered over a hundred miles from its capital, Georgetown. By 2017, Schlumberger decided to invest in a 75-million-dollar facility to establish the company’s Guyana, Trinidad, and the Caribbean (GTC) office’s headquarters in Guyana. Fast-forward to 2022: More than a dozen other oil fields were found, propelling Guyana to make the list of countries with the highest oil reserves per capita in the world!

Schlumberger turned to Allied

With so many new oil reserves to manage, constructing the GTC headquarters became a necessity. Schlumberger turned to Allied to design and build the company’s regional headquarters in Guyana, which would provide many jobs to local Guyanese people.

The steel building project’s most unique feature was the fact that multiple cranes were running in different directions under the office level. The movement of the cranes would generate vibration on the second floor, so special framing was required to keep the second floor from trembling. We met Schlumberger’s expectations and completed the project in August of 2021—on time despite a tight timeline—enabling them to start operations, “for Guyana from Guyana”, as their slogan says.

Allied is proud to play a role in bringing prosperity to Guyana by making this building a reality. This project added to the impressive portfolio of 24+ buildings that Allied has supplied in Guyana for over a dozen different customers in various industries. It’s in our DNA to work closely with talented people from around the globe, to solve the complex challenges that inevitably come up in projects of this magnitude. Our unmatched commitment to our clients’ success and our robust support ecosystem to bring international projects to fruition truly sets us apart. “We are with you all the way.”

Allied has delivered over 24 structures in Guyana for companies such as Atlantic Marine, TechnipFMC & Baker Hughes.
