PROJECT OVERVIEW

Baker Hughes, Guyana Warehouse

Project Details

Allied and Baker Hughes – Another Happy Introduction

Significant growth is underway in Guyana’s energy sector with Baker Hughes, a global energy technology company that provides oilfield services and equipment as well as turbomachinery and digital solutions to the oil and gas industry. With business in more than 120 countries, Baker Hughes was looking to expand their operations in Guyana with a multimillion-dollar facility designed to better support regional clients. As usual, Allied was up to the task.

The Baker Hughes supercenter at Land of Canaan, located 14 miles south of Guyana’s Capital Georgetown, occupies roughly eight acres of land next to the Demerara river. Consisting of two buildings totaling almost 100,000 square feet, the supercenter includes a workshop, warehouse, storage space, and maintenance facilities. The facility is expected to employ more than 100 Guyanese workers within the next few years, providing full support for drilling-services customers in Guyana and Suriname.

(Global Steel-Supply) Crisis Averted

Resourcefulness and versatility is Allied’s middle name, even when faced by a global supply-chain crisis. With steel in short supply at the height of this project, we leaned on our robust ecosystem of suppliers and overcame one of our largest challenges to date with only minor impacts. Another interesting challenge was the original multidirectional crane layout, requiring cranes running in multiple directions. Allied was able to value-engineer the structure and propose alternative options for the crane paths, successfully completing the project in eight months. Not only did we meet our client’s expectations, with delivery on Valentine’s Day 2022, we improved building efficiency and saved money in the process. What’s not to love? Allied handled the entire process—from concept, to delivery—in Guyana.

The Best Kind of Growth is Growth Together

We are particularly proud to have contributed to this project at Land of Canaan because we know that in the long term it will bring prosperity and significant economic development to the region by providing new jobs, new roads, and other infrastructure upgrades that create a lasting impact. This project adds to the impressive portfolio that Allied has built in Guyana. Guyana is a strategic location not only for us but also for Baker Hughes due to its growth potential after the abundance of recent oil discoveries.

Allied has delivered over 24 structures in Guyana for companies such as TechnipFMC, Schlumberger & Atlantic Marine.
