Job Summary:
The Production Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying protective coatings to fabricated steel components and structures. This role is ideal for an experienced painter or construction laborer with painting experience who can perform industrial coating work in a steel fabrication environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform surface preparation for industrial painting, including cleaning, sanding, and applying primers to steel components, similar to duties performed by a construction laborer or painter on industrial and construction projects.
- Operate media blasting equipment to prepare steel surfaces prior to painting.
- Mix, match, and apply industrial paints and coatings using spray guns and other painting tools.
- Apply primers, intermediate coatings, and topcoats according to work orders and painting specifications.
- Inspect finished painted surfaces for uniformity, coverage, and quality; perform touch-ups as needed.
- Maintain and clean painting equipment, spray systems, and paint work areas.
- Monitor paint materials and supplies and notify supervisors when inventory needs replenishment.
- Record paint usage, work completed, and any issues encountered during the painting process.
- Support production efficiency by completing painting tasks accurately and minimizing rework.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company policies related to painting and coating operations.
- Properly wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE) during painting activities.
- Report accidents, unsafe conditions, or hazards to supervisors immediately.
- Participate in required safety training programs related to painting operations and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members, including fabricators and construction laborers, to meet production goals.
- Monitor work quality to ensure all painting and coating work meets company standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of experience in industrial painting, structural painting, or construction painting preferred. Experience working as a painter, construction laborer, industrial painter, or construction laborer performing painting and coating tasks is a strong advantage.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Familiarity with spray painting equipment, paint mixing, and surface preparation techniques.
- Basic understanding of industrial painting processes and coatings used in steel fabrication or construction environments.
- Knowledge of painting safety procedures, including ventilation requirements and PPE usage.
- Ability to read job orders, follow painting specifications, and interpret drawings when needed.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality paint finishes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production environment.
- Ability to read, write, and understand basic English and/or Spanish to follow safety instructions and work procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to workplace safety and productivity.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing or industrial painting environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and debris.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating painting tools and equipment.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift (6:00am – 2:00pm), 2nd Shift (2:00pm – 10:00pm)
- Depending on production needs, some weekend work may be required.
