A Craft Steel Building Brewery and Taproom for Vantage Point Brewing

Cheers to Great Beer and Greater Challenges

Steel Building Brewery. In Early 2023 Allied delivered the first brewery and tasting room for Vantage Point Brewing Company, a new venture by beer hobbyist and homebrewer Kevan McCrummen. Referred to Allied in 2019 by one of our partners, the client was ready to take his passion for beer-making to the next level by investing in a prefab-steel brewery that was equal parts inviting and functional.

His goal was to create a space for live music events and private gatherings, with a casual and welcoming atmosphere, so invoking warmth and curb appeal was paramount. In collaboration with the client’s architect, we developed a design that blended the client’s desired industrial steel-building aesthetic with inviting accents that complimented the venue’s surroundings off a main mountainside road.

Challenge(s) Accepted

Covid-related challenges influenced the shape of this project on many fronts. Covid-related land approval delays and shipping-related slowdowns were other unexpected obstacles to contend with. Despite these setbacks, Allied stood by our promise to deliver a finished product that we were certain the client would love. Between our in-house team of experts and factory, plus our network of skilled partners, we knew that no matter how trying the circumstances, we could still offer best-in-class engineering, visionary design, and transparent expectations with turnaround time.

Steel-Building but Make it Cozy

To instill warmth into an otherwise industrial design and create an economical yet visually impactful space, we integrated a variety of panel colors and profiles into the design. The finished prefab steel-building consists of vertical PBR panels, horizontal PBU panels, and a standing seam roof, with high ceilings, abundant natural light, and a second floor for private events. The end result: a 7,840 square foot venue that feels spacious and open with ample room for a taproom and bar plus a large brewery.

Smooth Seas Don’t Make Skilled Sailors

Finding creative ways to stay on budget while delivering a major vision is one of our fortes but so is clearing unexpected hurdles. Our true test with their project came when a shipment of steel from Allied’s Spanish factory arrived in the port of Los Angeles in February 2022. Covid-related port shutdowns and delays were a known worldwide issue, and our team planned accordingly, but nothing could have prepared us for the four-month-long customs delay in L.A.

Nonetheless, our nimble, problem-solving team of experts did everything within their power to keep the project on schedule. After unloading in Los Angeles, we made the difficult decision to reroute the shipment to Seattle in order to avoid the four-month delay. Given the circumstances, our goal to keep the project on schedule was an ambitious one, and we delivered to the jobsite in Coeur d’Alene in March 2022.
