Distribution Center. In early 2020 a Panama-based real estate developer contacted Allied Steel Buildings for help with their latest project, a distribution center in Panama. As an investor and developer of logistic parks, office buildings, and other projects, the client had enlisted Allied Steel Buildings for three previous projects over the last five years and was confident about building upon past successes to undertake new ventures together.

A Well Rounded Triangle

Seeking Allied’s design and manufacturing expertise, they engaged us in a collaboration with their local architect. With our longtime engineering partner, we designed the optimal structure to meet the project’s end-needs. Working on a competitive budget and around unusual land constraints that dictated the building’s triangular shape, we channeled the resourcefulness we’re proud to be known for, and received the client’s approval to have the design submitted for permitting without a single round of changes.

Ready When You Are

Good things take time though and after a frictionless design phase the client was deliberate about choosing and ordering materials. Committed to supporting all of our clients when it comes to the timing of their projects, we waited two years before the materials were confirmed and the proposal was signed. Once greenlighted, fabrication and detailing progressed rapidly so materials could deliver on schedule.

As usual Allied took every measure to ensure we offered our client the most efficient timeline possible. We demonstrated our ability to deploy quickly and pick up where we left off after years away from the project. Fortuitously, by affording our client the flexibility they needed with a longer-than-usual conception and development period, this project was able to leapfrog the various supply chain, pricing, shipping and logistics challenges that prevailed during 2020 and 2021.

Flying High, with Distribution Center Solutions

From a design and engineering standpoint, despite its unusual shape, the building is straightforward with few complexities. Installation was straightforward and only a little of our unorthodox creativity was needed to keep the project on track. Allied played a role in expediting the installation of the structure’s standing seam roof, which required machinery that the client’s installer did not have readily available in Panama. Never short of creative solutions, we sourced a metal roof roll forming machine from the United States, then transported it to Panama, circumventing the typical lengthy importation process.

Building Partnerships for the Ages

All of the building’s primary steel was manufactured by Allied at our factory in Spain. Secondary steel components, sandwich panels, and a standing seam roof provide the finishing touches to the eye-catching new building. In all, the project was yet another collaborative success with a repeat client.
